The aim of this post is to put into perspective the truth about marketing yourself, your brand, your products, and your future.
This chapter will deal with a new look at Marketing and hopefully change many of the misconceptions that are generally believed about marketing.
When the subject of market is mentioned you can literally hear the mental groans ” It is not my job” or “I don’t know how to market ”
Neither of the above inspires confidence nor helps you in your progress.
MARKETING is neither difficult or boring it is an existing experiment in a social interaction.
Further it allows you the marketer to have fun a great marketer is also an entertainer and this particular skill together with a reasonably good vocabulary will stand you in good stead when marketing your product/s.
Most people think that marketing and selling are difficult.
THIS IS NOT TRUE.
EVERY FINANCIAL TRANSACTION IS AS A RESULT OF A MARKETING INTERACTION.
If the above is true and I can assure you that it is, then Marketing is most probably one of the oldest professions in the world.
Marketing can be a very rewarding career, however most people will enter this profession with feeling of inadequacy and a large amount of fear.
This is as a result of preconceived ideas and incorrect information been provided.
This lesson will begin to correct the effects of these wrong ideas and information.
The reason that people think that marketing is hard is because they have been told this repeatedly.
Just because people say something enough times don’t make it true, but it will generally confuse enough people into believing that it is and this will result in loss of potential and below market achievement.
The first thing you will need to do to be a success in your marketing career whether it is with a multinational company or the local grocery shop is:
1.) TO BELIEVE IN YOURSELF.
THE ABILITY TO BELIEVE IN YOUR OWN POTENTIAL AS A PERSON, THAT YOU ARE SPECIAL, THAT YOU ARE UNIQUE AND THAT YOU BELIEVE THAT YOU WILL BE SUCCESSFUL.
If you do not feel good about yourself and you try to market or sell something the people you are selling to will pickup on this and at best you will undersell just to make a sale (this I call desperation marketing) or you will not sell your product at all.
I cannot stress this enough:
BELIEVE IN YOURSELF, BELIEVE IN YOUR POTENTIAL, FEEL GOOD ABOUT YOURSELF.
KNOWLEDGE OF YOUR PRODUCTS – BELIEVE IN YOUR PRODUCTS WORTH.
To be effective in marketing your products you will need to have an intimate knowledge of your product so that you can answer any questions or queries that potential customers might have (nothing is more negative than when a customer asks a question and is greeted by a blank look or an off the cuff “I don’t know ” by the sales person) when faced with a question that you do not have an immediate answer to the best answer is I will check and get back to you ( make sure that you do.)
If you have double about the value of your product you cannot effectively market something that you do not believe in.
IF YOU BELIEVE YOUR PRODUCT IS RUBBISH THEN IT MOST PROBABLY IS. DON’T SELL IT.
Believing in your product and speaking about it with knowledge and passion will products eill produce amazing results.
The results of your endeavours can only benefit you.
A sales person who sells tyres all their working lives and believes that they are only a Tyre sales person is greatly mistaken that person and many others are the engine room of many multinational companies that drive the world economy and thus a very important part of that economy.
